Free Public Speaking Topics You Can Use

speech topics

Choosing your speech topics can be one of the hardest parts of preparing a speech - and it's the first thing you have to do! So, to help you choose your topic, we've prepared topic lists of important, interesting, and funny public speaking topics. Different kinds of speeches are listed below, each with a description and link to a list of 10 topics.

If you have a great idea for a speech topic, show it off! Enter it here. Or, to see ideas submitted by other readers and speakers, click here.

All links below are alphabetical (minus words such as "good" and "free"). If we have more than one list of topics covering the same subject, they're listed next to each other.

Scroll up and down to find what you need!

  • Argumentative speaking topics. These are topics you would use in a debate or question-and-answer setting. They're somewhat controversial, and can be a lot of fun to argue. Just don't get offended!

  • Demonstration speaking topics. If you need to give a speech demonstrating something, here's where to look. Most of these require little preparation or equipment, but have elements that can still make them very effective speeches.

  • Practical demonstrative speaking topics. Same as above. More ideas for demonstrative speeches.

  • Fun speaking topics. Who wants to give a boring speech when you could be giving one of these fun ones?!

  • Graduation speech ideas. It's graduation time. One final hurrah. What will you speak about?

  • Impromptu speaking topics. Uh oh, you've been called on to speak on-the-spot! What can you speak about? These topics focus on common and interesting knowledge that you can speak about easily.

  • Informational speaking topics. You need to give information about something. What will you give information about? These are topics that lend themselves to good, interesting (read: not boring!) informational speeches.

  • Good informative speaking topics. Same as above. You need to inform but not bore. What will you speak about?

  • Interesting speaking topics. You just need a good topic that won't make people fall asleep. You've come to the right place.

  • List of speaking topics. What are some of the most effective speech topics? Read here for a list of ten effective speech topics.

  • Motivational speaking topics. You need to be inspiring. But what are you going to be inspiring about?

  • Persuasive speech ideas. If you could get someone to do anything you wanted them to do, what would it be? Here's some questions to ask yourself to help you discover the answer to that question.

  • Persuasive speaking topics. Similar to the above, only this time we'll give you a list of actually persuasive speech topics.

  • Free persuasive speaking topics. Here's even more things you can persuade people to do, most of which won't cost your audience a thing.

  • Good speaking topics. What makes a good speech topic? We'll talk about that right here.

  • School speaking topics. You need to speak at school. What will you tell your peers?
