Obama's Posture

(Spee)

Q. What is the significance of President Obama's erect posture during his inauguration ceremony, and is there such a thing as Presidential posture/swagger?

A. Good question! The simple answer is that he was trying to act presidential. The idea is not so far out, as two of our past presidents, Chester Arthur (#21) and Warren Harding (#29) were in part elected because they "looked presidential." Of course Obama wanted to looked authoritative and in charge of the situation. Then again, maybe he was so erect and stiff was because it was the only way he could control his nervousness!

I would say there is a "presidential posture." Our president is the leader of the only superpower in the world, and they certainly need to look the part. Now qualified? That is the topic for another forum!
