Youth Court

by Justin K.
(Babylon, NY)

Q: I'm a member of Youth Court, and needless to say, public speaking is an important part. Any tips?

A: Good question Justin. Probably the most important part in public speaking is to relax. I don't mean to sound simplistic, but getting rid of the nerves, or at least quieting them, is very important. Think about what you need to say, and the best way to phrase it. A good idea is to NOT begin with a joke. Unless you are a very experienced speaker, jokes often fall flat. Also, never speak about a topic you are unfamiliar with. Keep in mind that the more you speak, the easier it will become.
