Father of the Bride Speech Tips

Show her she's special.

father of the bride speech by Anissa Thompson

Your daughter is getting married! Here are some unique father of the bride speech tips our readers and other users have submitted.

  • "Mention things from when she was younger and the things you both did together."

  • "OK, Dad, Daughter is getting married. Maybe this is the first, hopefully it is the last. As Dad (literal or titled as such), you get to speak. A few pieces of advice:
    1. Do compliment what a great guy the groom is, and how wonderful he is to be joining the family. This reflects well on the bride.
    2. Don't bash prior boyfriends. The groom may not know about them, and this could set the wedding night off on a bad start if new hubby learns things in your speech (or anything you say that day) that his fiance did not want him to know.
    3. Do not ever reference how much you paid for the wedding. That is in poor taste.
    4. Sexual innuendo from the father of the bride have a strong "yuck" factor. The only possible exception is jokes about looking forward to grandkids."

If you still don't know what to say after reading these speech tips, I recommend visiting Father of the Bride Speeches by Wedding Speech 4U. Their instantly downloadable book comes with 20 professionally written speeches, a step-by-step guide to writing your own speech, toasts, etiquette, and more. I highly recommend it.

Happy speaking!
